The Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday placed veteran slugger Joey Votto on the injured list after the former Most Valuable Player tested positive for COVID-19.
The Reds announced the positive test after Votto gave them permission.
Votto will be away from the team for at least the next seven days.

Votto, 37, has four hits in nine at-bats this spring.
He hit .226 with 11 home runs in 54 games last season. The six-time All-Star is a career .304/.419/.517 hitter with 295 home runs, 966 RBIs and 1,041 runs scored. He needs just 92 hits to reach 2,000 for his career, all with Cincinnati.
Votto landed on the IL last August after self-reporting symptoms of COVID-19, but he did not test positive for the virus and missed just two games.
