The Chicago White Sox are coming off a historically bad 2024 season, setting the modern record with 121 losses. And 2025 doesn’t look much brighter.
Sportsbooks have set the over/under for White Sox wins at just 53.5 — the lowest projected win total in 35 years. That’s only 12.5 wins more than the franchise managed last season, when they limped to a 41-121 record.
“It’s really hard to have two historically bad seasons in a row,” said Randy Blum, baseball oddsmaker for the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, in an interview with ESPN’s David Purdum. “Don’t get me wrong, though, there’s nothing to love about the White Sox this year.”
The roster outlook confirms Blum’s assessment. The White Sox traded away All-Star ace Garrett Crochet and let third baseman Yoan Moncada walk in free agency. They’re also expected to ship out center fielder Luis Robert Jr. at the trade deadline.
With another 100-loss season looming, the White Sox championship odds have reached absurd levels. According to Polymarket, the Second Coming of Jesus Christ has better odds of happening in 2025 than the White Sox winning a championship.
The trading platform gives Jesus’ return a 3% chance of occurring, while the White Sox hoisting the trophy has just a 1% chance.
If the White Sox somehow win the World Series this year, perhaps fans should glance skyward immediately afterward.
