Entering the offseason with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears are arguably facing the biggest decision in franchise history. Do they stay at the top and make Caleb Williams the first overall pick, or do they trade down in an effort to build a much stronger foundation around Justin Fields or another QB in the future?
Many anticipate the Bears to stand pat and select the prospect many view as the best quarterback in the draft since Trevor Lawrence. However, that same hype that builds around Williams is the same reason why Chicago may be so tempted to add a bounty of trade capital through the draft for the second year in a row. Plus, what if Fields really is the solution at QB?
Needless to say, the Bears have some tough decisions to make, but the front office may be getting a closer look at how the NFL’s top draft prospect operates.

Chicago Bears interviewing Caleb Williams’ offensive coordinator for NFL position
When you’re in a position like the Chicago Bears are, with the first overall pick for the second year in a row, you have a chance to make a massive impact on your organization’s future. The right pick could put them on the path to the Super Bowl; Joe Burrow can tell you that.
Whereas making the wrong decision could put you on the path of complete destruction, with a last-place finish in the NFC North for years to come.
The Bears have until April 25 to officially make their decision, but until then, the front office is putting in all the work they can to try to identify which direction this franchise should take.
On Thursday, the Bears set a very interesting interview for their current offensive coordinator vacancy by bringing in Kliff Kingsbury from the USC Trojans. Kingsbury is coming off a season where he operated as USC’s senior offensive analyst, where he got to work closely with Caleb Williams.
Yet, now with Williams off to the NFL, Kingsbury could be set to join him.
For the Bears, hiring Kingsbury would seemingly signal their intent to select Williams first overall. Yet, what if this is more of a meeting to help Chicago gather intel on the potential first overall pick?
They don’t get to speak with Williams quite yet, but interviewing Kingsbury now allows Chicago the opportunity to ask other football-related questions, such as digging into the young QB prospect’s work ethic, ability to process information, and many other aspects that will certainly heavily factor into their draft decision.
