San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested on Monday and faces allegations of domestic violence in San Jose.

According to the Bay Area News Group, Omenihu was arrested on Monday afternoon after police were dispatched to his home on Santana Row at 4:39 p.m. PT. Called to a report for domestic violence, officers on-scene arrived to a woman telling them that her boyfriend “pushed her to the ground” during an argument.

Omenihu, the woman’s boyfriend, remained on the scene and provided law enforcement with a statement upon their arrival. Based on the woman’s allegations, the 49ers’ defensive lineman was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. He was later released from Santa Clara County jail after posting bail.

An emergency protective order was issued for the women and served to Omenihu and an investigation is ongoing. Following the conclusion of the investigation, law enforcement will present the evidence to the Santa Clara County District Attorney for evaluation on possible charges.

In a news release obtained by the Bay Area News Group, police stated that the woman cited arm pain from the incident. However, an initial observation “did not observe any physical injuries” and the women decline medical attention.

“We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information.”

A 6-foot-5 defensive end, Omenihu was selected with the 161st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. A Texas native who won Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2018 with the Texas Longhorns, Omenihu was traded to the 49ers in Nov. 2021 for a 2023 sixth-round pick.

Omenihu is one of the best pass rushers on San Francisco’s defense, serving as a rotational edge defender in DeMeco Ryans’ scheme. In Sunday’s Divisional Round win over the Dallas Cowboys, Omenihu was credited with two sacks and one forced fumble across 34 snaps.
