Players acquired by Canadian NHL teams now will need to quarantine for only seven days upon entering the country, according to a report by The Canadian Press.
Up to this point, the NHL has been forced to follow the Canadian government’s rules requiring a 14-day quarantine. The rule change is expected to make the process of acquiring and onboarding new players easier for the league’s seven Canadian teams as the trade deadline of April 12 approaches. The same guidelines will apply for players joining Canadian teams from U.S.-based AHL minor league affiliates.
According to the report, players acquired and joining a Canadian team will be tested daily for COVID-19 during the seven-day quarantine period. The daily tests will continue the following week as players become eligible to join their teams.
The NHL’s 56-game regular-season concludes on May 10.
