Social media reacts to Iowa’s Caitlin Clark stepping into college basketball immortality with new NCAA scoring record

Caitlin Clark solidified her place as one of the greatest college basketball players of all time on Wednesday when she officially became the most prolific scorer on the women’s side of NCAA basketball.

Heading into the Iowa Hawkeyes game against the Michigan Wolverines, there was little doubt that Clark would pass Washington Huskies great Kelsey Plum and her record of 3,527 points. Clark was only seven behind entering the evening and to the surprise of no one, she blew by the record in a couple minutes.

Caitlin Clark scored the Hawkeyes’ first eight points and passed the all-time record with a Stephen Curry-style heat check three-point shot that sent the fans at Carver-Hawkeye Arena into an absolute frenzy. However, she didn’t stop there and actually hung 28 points on Michigan in the first quarter alone. The historic moment can be seen below.

Clark has been a superstar since last season when she carried Iowa all the way to the NCAA National Championship game and her fame has only grown this year. Following her legendary moment, unsurprisingly, many on X — formerly Twitter — reacted to Clark being the new scoring queen in NCAA history and showered the West Des Moines native with love and praise.
