The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed veteran cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve Tuesday for the second time in 2021-22, meaning his season is over.

Sherman has been bothered by an Achilles injury that kept him out of the Bucs’ final two games of the regular season.

Earlier this season, Sherman injured his calf while warming up for a Nov. 14 game against the Washington Football Team, which led to his first IR stint.

After signing with the defending Super Bowl champions in late September, Sherman, 33, only saw the field in five games (three starts). He finished the year with 11 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

A three-time All-Pro, Sherman has appeared in 144 career games (136 starts) in 11 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2011-17), San Francisco 49ers (2018-20) and Buccaneers. He has 495 tackles, 37 interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Also Tuesday, Tampa Bay activated outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett and practice squad kicker Jose Borregales from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Barrett has a team-leading 10 sacks.

The NFC South champion Buccaneers are the No. 2 seed in the conference and will host a playoff game against the No. 7 Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
