A year after being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, and being seen by most as a potential first-round pick, running back Bryce Love’s 2019 NFL Draft fall came to an end on Saturday.
The Pick: The Washington Redskins waited patiently for the board to play out. Once they were put on the clock in the fourth round, they didn’t hesitate to take one of the biggest wild cards in this draft class.
The Player: Love lit up college football in 2017 with over 2,100 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. Despite being a projected top-50 pick in the draft, Love returned to Stanford.
- The 2018 season proved to be a disaster for Love on the field as his yards per carry fell from 8.1 to 4.5 and failed to crack 800 rushing yards.
- Things only got worse for him in his final college game when he tore his ACL and tanked his draft stock even further.
The Fit: Love will not be asked to contribute right away with Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice leading the way, but the future could be exciting.
- Love will likely open the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and his recovery from knee surgery could rule him out for the entire season.
- He can watch and be mentored by Peterson, who returned to Washington after a bounce-back season.
- Washington now opens up a potential running duo of Love and Guice in the future, two players who were among the best at the college level when healthy.
