Browns QB Baker Mayfield: ‘People want to see us lose’

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Second-year quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns are legitimate playoff contenders heading into the 2019 season.

Heck, an argument could be made that they are favorites in the AFC North after adding Odell Beckham Jr. and a plethora of other talent in the offseason.

Mayfield himself continues to be under the microscope due to his outspoken ways and original personality.

In talking with Zach Frydenlund of Complex recently, the former Heisman winner did not change his tune too much. In fact, he believes that people want to see the Browns lose because of the hype surrounding the team.

“I think in the media and everything that comes with the hype around our team right now, people want to see us lose, just because the hype is so real,” Mayfield said.

We’re not 100 percent sure where Mayfield is going with this. Cleveland was the darling of the NFL during the second half of last season. It’s a feel-good story for the long-downtrodden organization.

Apparently, Mayfield thinks his Browns are now somehow the NFL’s version of the hated Golden State Warriors.

In any event, playing with a chip on his shoulder has always worked out for Mayfield. If he wants to use this as further inspiration, who can blame him?
