Browns’ Baker Mayfield praises star WR Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon

Rookie No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield might have to wait a while before tossing passes to star wide receiver Josh Gordon in a regular season game. But the Cleveland Browns’ future franchise quarterback is already making it clear where he stands on the talented pass catcher.

After having gotten in some practice time with Gordon during OTAs, Mayfield lobbed a ton of praise in the direction of the NFL’s former top receiver.

On the field, it’s hard to deny what Mayfield is saying here. Recently reinstated from a two-year league-mandated suspension, Gordon recorded 335 yards and averaged a whopping 18.6 yards per catch in five games last season. Remember, he led the NFL with 1,646 yards back in 2013.

The issue with Gordon, 27, is that he’s been suspended multiple times by the NFL for violating its substance abuse policy. Now seemingly clean off the field, we can expect Gordon to make a huge impact for Cleveland on the field in 2018.

Whether that includes catching passes from Mayfield at any point throughout the season remains to be seen. For now, it’s Tyrod Taylor’s job in Cleveland.
