Besides making a ton of money, Jake Paul’s ultimate goal in boxing is to be taken seriously. Well, a win on Saturday versus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will earn him one achievement he has long sought in boxing.

“My personal opinion is yes,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told Action Network about Paul getting a ranking with a win Saturday. “We do have a rankings committee. But I believe he has done enough. And he has received all the backlash for several years. If he beats Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, I think that puts him in a different position.”

Paul has stated several times in recent years that he wants to fight for a boxing world title eventually. Well, getting a ranking in one of the top sanctioning bodies in the world would certainly go a long way towards getting him closer to a championship bout in the next couple of years.

However, win or lose (although he is likely to win), his upcoming matchup with the former middleweight champion is already another financial success for “El Gallo.”

Paul vs. Chavez Jr. goes down on Saturday night in Southern California’s Honda Center. A building that has had many notable sporting and entertainment events since it opened over 30 years ago. Well, Paul has made new history at the venue.

On the day before the event, Most Valuable Promotions revealed that this weekend’s fight will have the largest gate for a boxing event in the arena’s long history. Surpassing previous boxing events with some big-name talent.

“Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. has officially set the biggest boxing gate in the history of Honda Center, one of Southern California’s most iconic combat sports venues,” the promotion said in a statement. “The blockbuster event surpasses previous Honda Center headliners, including Canelo Álvarez (37th professional fight) vs. Matthew Hatton for the WBC super welterweight championship, Ryan Garcia (20th professional fight) vs. Francisco Fonseca, and the recent sold-out Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal.

“In just his 13th professional bout and with no amateur career, Paul has broken boxing records at every major U.S. arena he’s fought in.” Specific numbers on the fight’s earnings should be revealed on Saturday.
