Boston Celtics fans did not like what they saw from their team inside TD Garden during Game 5 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series against the Philadelphia 76ers.

In particular, Philadelphia outscored Boston by seven points in the third quarter to take an 88-72 lead into the final 12 minutes. This came with Celtics fans expecting a win in a series that was tied at two heading into Tuesday night’s action.

Boy, did these fans let the Boston Celtics hear about it as the third quarter came to a conclusion. It was an ugly scene in Beantown as boos roared down from the crowd in the stands.

That’s certainly not something you hear every day when it comes to the defending Eastern Conference champions and their fans. Then again, one Celtics player spoke about a love/hate relationship with fans earlier in the season.

“It’s not the whole Celtic fan base, but it is a part of the fan base that exists within the Celtic nation that is problematic,” Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown from back in March. “If you have a bad game, they tie it to your personal character.

“I definitely think there’s a group or an amount within the Celtic nation that is extremely toxic and does not want to see athletes use their platform, or they just want you to play basketball and entertain and go home. And that’s a problem to me.”
