Bo Nix transformed his career and future with the Oregon Ducks, going from a disappointment with the Auburn Tigers into a superstar at Oregon. As he now prepares for the 2024 NFL Draft, however, there remain concerns about Nix’s long-term outlook.
Nix, a record-breaking quarterback in college, finished the 2023 season as a Heisman Trophy contender and delivered some of the best single-game performances in college football last year. While it elevated his draft stock much higher than it was when he arrived at Oregon, NFL scouts and talent evaluators have some concerns.

Ahead of the 2024 Senior Bowl, ESPN’s Matt Miller shared that Nix went into the week facing concerns over “his accuracy outside of the Oregon scheme” that caused teams to worry about how he would fare in an NFL system. Entering the week, he was viewed as a “fringe” first-round talent who might only get pushed into Round 1 because of his positional value.
Nix didn’t exactly light it up at the Senior Bowl, never flashing any moments that captured the attention of coaches and scouts in attendance. However, while Oregon’s scheme certainly inflated some of his numbers over the past two seasons, there are plenty of numbers that highlight some of his strengths as an accurate passer.
In the Ducks’ system, Nix was the most accurate quarterback in college football last season. Even if you look beyond his record-breaking 77.45 percent completion rate in 2023, Nix’s accuracy stands out in a number of critical situations.

However, the completion rates could also be a point of contention. While Nix was extremely accurate on deep balls as a senior with Oregon, he also only attempted them on 10.9 percent of his pass attempts. A far greater volume of his throws – 27.9 percent (7th-highest in FBS) – went behind the line of scrimmage or within 0-5 yards of the line of scrimmage (38.8 percent).
While Nix wasn’t the best quarterback at the Senior Bowl, losing that battle to Michael Penix Jr., he didn’t hurt his draft stock. NFL teams that liked his tools came away having seen what they liked, while those with concerns about his consistency and accuracy had their evaluations reaffirmed by some of his low moments in practices.
