Philadelphia Eagles’ popularity soaring, with Bills-Eagles matchup being highest-rated game of 2023 NFL season

Bills-Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills played one of the most entertaining games of the 2023 season Sunday, and it drew another large audience for arguably the NFL’s best team.

According to Doug Greenberg of Front Office Sports, the Week 12 thriller registered a 15.2 rating and averaged 30.9 million viewers, making it the highest-rated game of the season and the third most watched game behind the first two games on Thanksgiving Day.

Because of the Bills-Eagles matchup, it was the most watched national game window for CBS since 2007, when a game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts accumulated 33.82 million viewers.

The Eagles, who have seen an increase in viewership this season, beat Josh Allen and the Bills, 37-34, when quarterback Jalen Hurts ran 12 yards for a game-winning touchdown in overtime.

Earlier season, the Eagles’ loss to the New York Jets attracted 26.09 million viewers. Then in November, the Eagles’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys attracted 27.14 million viewers.

Bills-Eagles matchup could be surpassed

Fresh off a berth in last year’s Super Bowl, Hurts and the Eagles have dominated with a league-best 10-1 record and are well-positioned to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Looking at the Eagles’ schedule, their viewership could surpass the Bills-Eagles game with marquee matchups over the next two weeks.

On Sunday, they host the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC championship rematch at 4:25 p.m. ET. Then the following week, the Eagles and Cowboys will play Sunday night in Dallas.
