Baltimore Ravens trying to trade for All-Pro receiver, or are they?

NFL free agency has seen the Baltimore Ravens make a splash signing by adding All-Pro running back Derrick Henry on a two-year, $16 million contract. The downhill runner should pair nicely with two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in the backfield, but they still need to improve the receiving corps. Again.

Yet, there aren’t many potentially high-impact wide receivers available in free agency. There’s always turning to the 2024 NFL Draft, like GM Eric DeCosta did last season by selecting Zay Flowers with the 22nd pick. However, selecting young prospects who have never played a snap in the pros also comes with great risk, even if the Flowers pick worked out well.

Another potential solution is turning to the trade market, which the Ravens have reportedly been trying to do, or maybe not, depending on who you ask.

According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the Ravens reached out to the San Francisco 49ers regarding the availability of All-Pro receiver/weapon Deebo Samuel. As expected, the Ravens were told no, Samuel is not available.

Yet, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta had his own response to the report, basically saying La Canfora’s report is all fiction.

However, La Canfora also indicated that the Ravens were keeping a close eye on what happens with the Los Angeles Chargers, who released Mike Williams on Wednesday. Now, with Williams free to sign with any team, the Ravens could be a great fit.
