The Baltimore Ravens have been looking for running back help after two holdovers in that of J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill went down with season-ending injuries.
In what has to be considered a surprising turn of events, said help will come in the form of former Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro back Le’Veon Bell. It’s just not what you might think.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bell has signed on to the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. You read that right. The Ravens’ practice squad.
It’s absolutely astonishing that Bell could not latch on to a teams’ 53-man roster. The three-time Pro Bowl performer has seen his career on a downward trajectory ever since he held out of the 2018 season due to a contract stalemate with Pittsburgh.
In the two seasons since, Bell has recorded a combined 1,117 rushing yards at a clip of 3.4 yards per attempt in stops with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to his hold out in 2018, Bell averaged nearly 1,600 total yards in his first five NFL seasons.
As for the Baltimore Ravens, it’s clear that they need some help behind presumptive starting running back Gus Edwards. Likely to be on their active roster at some point soon, the hope is that Bell provides this help moving forward.
