Last year, the Atlanta Falcons learned that a quarterback room led by Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke isn’t good enough to compete in the NFC South. While the Falcons came close to snatching a playoff spot, they rarely looked like a dominant offense capable of running the table.

Now after hiring Raheem Morris, the next biggest item on the Falcons’ offseason wish list involves finding a franchise quarterback capable of winning more than seven games, and there’s one player who’s been heavily linked to Atlanta this offseason.

The Atlanta Falcons are sure to have several options to address the quarterback position this offseason. While the desire to find a long-term solution via the draft remains high, picking eighth could make finding a franchise QB difficult during the draft.

Free agency could present possibilities like Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, and Jimmy Garoppolo, but these are all short-term solutions that are sure to have the Falcons back in the QB market over the next few years.

There’s also another low-cost option that could lead to rewarding success, such as trading for Chicago’s Justin Fields.

The Bears are expected to move on from Fields in anticipation of selecting Caleb Williams No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. If Williams is on the way to the Windy City, then Chicago will have to find a trade partner for their former first-round pick, and oddsmakers believe Fields lands in Atlanta.

As you might imagine, the Falcons are expected to have other competition for Fields, and while he’s had his inconsistent moments, teams still believe there’s untapped potential in the former 11th overall pick. Perhaps the Falcons are the team that can get the most out of the former Ohio State star.
