Arizona Cardinals superstar Budda Baker sends subtle sign that time with team could be over

Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowler Budda Baker made a subtle change to his Twitter account that now has some wondering if his days in the desert could soon be over.

Safety Budda Baker has been one of the best defensive players the Arizona Cardinals have ever had. After taking him with the 36th pick overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Washington star has done nothing but deliver elite-level performances for the teams.

Baker shockingly earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in just seven starts during his rookie campaign. However, while he was unable to follow that up with honors in his sophomore season, he was again a Pro Bowler every year from 2019 all the way up to this past season. In that time he added a second All-Pro season to his resume and had a peak tackles year in 2019 when he tallied 147 (104 solo).

The 27-year-old has become a core member of the Arizona Cardinals’ defense and one of the few reliable stars they currently have on the roster. Yet there was a surprising signal made recently that could indicate he may not be on the team much longer.

Arizona Cardinals record (2022): 4-13, last place in NFC West

Eagle-eyed Arizona Cardinals beat writer Bo Brack noticed something interesting on Thursday. On Budda Baker’s Twitter account, the six-year veteran changed his picture from one of him celebrating in his uniform to one standing by a pool. No big deal right? Well, that wasn’t the only difference. He previously had AZ listed front and center in his bio, but that has also since been removed.

Obviously, it could mean nothing and be a sign he no longer lives in the state. However, the two changes are interesting, and professional athletes making subtle changes like that to their social accounts have been indicators of major situations in the past.

It will be something to watch with the Arizona Cardinals only having one guaranteed year in the final two years of his contract. In 2024 the team has the option to keep or release the defensive star. Baker is set to make just over $13 million next season (via Spotrac).
