Kansas City Chiefs bracing for possibility Andy Reid retires after NFL Playoffs

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has been on an NFL sideline for the past quarter-century. The Super Bowl winning-head coach knows no difference. He’s about the game. That has played a central role in his life since he was in his 20s.

Could this all come to an end soon? Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that the Chiefs are bracing for a potential Reid retirement once the 2024 NFL Playoffs come to a conclusion.

“Ever since I caught wind of the possibility, that the Chiefs are bracing for the possibility of Reid leaving – not saying he will, but I think there is reason to believe the Chiefs have it on the radar screen – then Mahomes, there is only one and the Chiefs have him,” report on Andy Reid potentially retiring.

Set to turn 66 in March, Reid did address these rumors in talking with media ahead of Sunday’s AFC Divisional Playoff matchup with the Buffalo Bills.

“I figured that would come up when you guys were asking these questions because I’m old but, not that old,” Reid told reporters.

The two-time Super Bowl champion is not one to make headlines. If he does indeed opt to hang it up, we likely won’t find out until he legitimately makes the decision. It’s not going to be a drawn-out process.

Reid has been in the NFL coaching circles since he was a tight ends and assistant offensive line coach for the Green Bay Packers in 1992.

He took over as the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach back in 1999 and lasted until 2011 in Philly. Reid has since been with the Kansas City Chiefs since 2013. He currently boasts the fourth-most wins among NFL head coaches behind the likes of Don Shula, George Halas and Bill Belichick.
