Last year, Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory. Rarely have the Chiefs looked like a team that can get back to the NFL’s biggest stage throughout the 2023-24 season.

Mahomes had the worst year of his six-year career, and the Chiefs didn’t get to 12 wins for the first time since 2018. While they’re headed to the playoffs for the ninth time in as many years, most would agree, something’s off.

There’s no doubt this has been one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory for Coach Reid, and now, some are wondering if the legendary two-time Super Bowl champion will retire at the end of the season.

Specifically, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio raised the question while reminding of the odd pre-Super Bowl rumor that circulated last season. At that time, the question was whether Super Bowl LVII would be the last game Reid ever coached.

Obviously, that rumor was bogus, and Reid returned for another year, but what if there was some shred of truth contained within the initial report? If Reid was on the fence back then, it’s possible the 65-year-old coach is back on the fence now.

After 25 seasons as head coach, including 11 in Kansas City, Reid has compiled a win-loss record of 257-144-1. Depending on how the Chiefs perform in the playoffs, we just might be looking at the final season from a future Hall of Fame head coach.
