Aaron Judge gives scary toe injury update: ‘I don’t think it’ll ever be normal’

New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge gave a Fourth of July update on his toe injury, and it is something that should make pinstripe fans very worried.

The New York Yankees 2023 campaign has been frustrating for several reasons, as the team has struggled at times and has the bad luck of being in the same division as two of the best teams in baseball this year. However, Aaron Judge’s performance and latest injury have become the biggest story of the season.

While Judge has put up solid numbers, it is a far cry from the unbelievable numbers he put in an MVP-winning performance last season. But things have gotten a bit grim in recent weeks. The outfielder injured his toe during an outstanding catch against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 3 and has yet to return to the lineup. And the most worrisome thing is there is still no clear sign of when he may return.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the 31-year-old began to hit off a tee. Giving fans some home that a return, possibly as a designated hitter, could be possible in the near future. However, Aaron Judge spoke with media ahead of the team’s game on Tuesday, and what he had to say about the torn ligament in his toe is unlikely to give New York Yankees fans much hope to see him back in the next few weeks.

One of the most worrisome revelations from Judge’s media session is the fact that if he does return to action, pain management will be key for the rest of the season. While he has no intention of having surgery, because it would end his year, he did admit when speaking about his toe, “I don’t think it’ll ever be normal.”

The New York Yankees seem to be pleased about how he has looked when hitting off a tee and pivoting his 270-pound frame on his foot. However, running still remains a major issue, which rules out the possibility of being a DH at this time.

“If I can run then I can play but me running at 10 percent ain’t going to help anybody out there,” Judge said (via The Athletic).
