Every year in the National Football League, scouts and general managers rave about the next quarterback class that has everyone excited. However, it appears the sentiment regarding the 2025 quarterback class could have a major influence on what happens in the 2024 NFL Draft.

There is plenty of consensus around the NFL regarding this year’s quarterback prospects. USC Trojans star Caleb Williams is expected to be the first overall pick for the Chicago Bears, while North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is widely expected to be chosen with the second pick by the Washington Commanders.

Even as the New England Patriots openly consider trading down from No. 3 overall, the level of interest in Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels leads to a belief that the LSU Tigers quarterback will be taken within the first 10 picks. Interestingly, though, it appears the 2025 QB class could influence where the other signal-callers land in the 2024 NFL Draft.

According to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network, NFL teams who have looked ahead to the draft-eligible quarterback prospects in 2025 aren’t excited about the options. Because of it, there is a sense around the NFL that 4 to 5 teams will try and move up for a quarterback they prefer in this year’s pool of prospects.

Jeremiah isn’t the only one close to the NFL reporting this. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Pete Thamel spoke to NFL scouts who aren’t excited about the quarterback prospects expected to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

“It won’t be anything close to this year.”

Beyond Williams, Maye and Daniels, potential first-round picks at quarterback in 2024 include J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix. There are also plenty of NFL teams interested in South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler as a potential Day 2 target.

While stars emerge every year in college football, a 2025 quarterback class headlined by Shedeur Sanders (Colorado Buffaloes), Drew Allar (Penn State Nittany Lions), Carson Beck (Georgia Bulldogs) and Quinn Ewers (Texas Longhorns) doesn’t seem to be viewed as a quality group of prospects. If that sentiment holds, we could potentially see five quarterbacks taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
