Report: Cowboys have ‘no interest’ in Jamal Adams trade or signing Jadeveon Clowney

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams could want a trade

The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to Jamal Adams, who wants a trade, and free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. However, the franchise reportedly won’t be pursuing either defensive superstar.

Jamal Adams wants a trade to the Cowboys but won’t get it

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams is dissatisfied with how contract extension talks have not taken place with his current team. He’s made it clear through social media and an official request to seek a trade that he wants out.

He’s also made his preferred destination known, with the Cowboys being the team he wishes to join.

However, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday that “a source said there has been no talk and no interest in making a move for New York Jets safety Jamal Adams.”

This falls in line with previous reports indicating the Cowboys just cannot afford to make such a move.

Jadeveon Clowney wants a contract the Cowboys can’t provide

Clowney has also listed the Cowboys as a team he’d like to sign with in free agency.

However, per Hill, that’s also not in the cards for Dallas:

“The source said the team has no interest in pursuing Seattle Seahawks free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who has reportedly listed the Cowboys as a preferred destination. Clowney is too expensive with offers on the table of $15 million annually or more.”

The team that’s said to have the best offer on the table for Clowney is the Cleveland Browns. Though, Clowney reportedly has rebuffed the franchise, for reasons that have yet to be fully defined.

Dak Prescott contract situation is at the center of it all for Cowboys

The looming issue facing Dallas right now is the Dak Prescott contract impasse. The team reportedly hasn’t had meaningful contract talks with Prescott since March. At this point it’s expected that he will play the 2020 season on the franchise tag.

That’s not ideal heading into a 2021 season that could be significantly impacted from a financial perspective due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So with all that in mind it’s not surprising that the Cowboys are reportedly not interested in trying to land Adams or Clowney at this time.
