Things are getting really tricky around the Major League Baseball world after pretty much half of the Miami Marlins’ roster tested positive for COVID-19 over the past few days.
The Marlins themselves are expected to be out of action until at least Monday. Meanwhile, other teams will have to change their schedules to take this into account. There’s now more information available, something that could have wide-ranging ramifications.

Carlos A. Giménez (R) is not necessarily forcing the Marlins into quarantine. But in reality, this makes the most sense. Tests after initial exposure to COVID-19 don’t tell the entire story. Individuals can test positive long after potentially being exposed.
As for the MLB season, things seem to be unraveling right now.
MLB schedule changes
- The current plan is for the Philadelphia Phillies to be off until Friday. They played the above-mentioned Marlins last weekend and could have been exposed to the virus. Though, no Phillies player has tested positive as of yet.
- The New York Yankees are set to take on the Orioles in Baltimore on Wednesday and Thursday after each of their past two games against Philadelphia were postponed. Originally, the Yankees were set to host the Phillies over the next two days. Baltimore pretty much confirmed this schedule change on Tuesday.
- The Marlins are now expected to be off until Monday. It’s not yet known if they will actually be able to return to the diamond by then. Though, these comments from Giménez could place that into question.
There’s been a lot of concern about MLB playing outside of a bubble this season. Given the widespread nature of the COVID-19 pandemic around the United States, that makes sense.
At least for now, this doesn’t threaten to derail the season.
