Russell Wilson wants the Seattle Seahawks to add to their talent pool at the wide receiver position. Josh Gordon may just be the man for the job.
According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, if Gordon is reinstated by the NFL the Seahwks would likely have mutual interest in a reunion.
“Gordon, according to sources, is fond of the Seahawks and the Seattle area, where he has continued to reside. The interest in a return would likely be mutual — depending on when he becomes available — given his upside and how well-liked he is in the organization.”
Last season, Gordon played six games with the New England Patriots before a knee injury sidelined him. Ultimately New England waived him after placing him on injured reserve, and the Seahawks claimed him off waivers.
Josh Gordon puts up big stats when he’s on the field
Splitting time between New England and Seattle, Gordon put up nice stats last season, appearing in a total of 11 games. He caught 27 passes for 426 yards and one touchdown in those games, which included seven starts.
A lack of continuity kept Gordon from living up to his vast potential. Remember, this is a former Pro Bowler who led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards back in 2013, despite playing in just 14 games that season.
All told, Gordon has racked up 247 receptions for 4,252 yards and 20 touchdowns in just 63 games as a pro.
History of suspensions has been Josh Gordon’s downfall
The reason Gordon has never been able to put up the kind of consistent production you’d expect from a player of his caliber is that he has a history of substance abuse and mental-health struggles.
He entered the NFL with a huge red flag after being suspended from Baylor due to a positive drug test. That led to Gordon being selected in the second round of the NFL’s supplemental draft in 2012. Since then, the talented receiver has been suspended five times by the NFL — the latest coming last December after yet another failed drug test.
