Colin Kaepernick has been waiting for years to get another shot in the NFL. As the 2020 season approaches, it looks like Kaepernick’s preparation might finally be paying off with at least one team interested in him.

Pete Carroll: “Someone is interested” in Colin Kaepernick

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he received a call from an NFL team about Kaepernick. While Carroll didn’t specify whether it was a head coach or general manager, he was confident that someone in the league is interested.

While Kaepernick hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2016, he trains daily and is in the best shape of his life. Not only is the 32-year-old hungrier than ever to play football, there is growing support for him returning to the league. Across the NFL, hope is increasing for Kaepernick to be signed with multiple NFL stars calling for him to be welcomed back.

The NFL organized a workout for Kaepernick during the 2019 season. While he looked impressive, complications with the event and strong opinions among owners kept him unsigned.

Kaepernick received extensive criticism, including from the NFL, for kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to raise awareness for police brutality. However, the league has since changed its stance with commissioner Roger Goodell supporting Black Lives Matter and apologizing to players for the response to kneeling.

On Thursday, the NFL pledged $250 million to help combat ‘systemic racism’ within the United States and individual teams have made separate contributions.

In his last season, Kaepernick threw for 2,241 yards with a 16-4 TD-INT ratio and a 90.7 quarterback rating in 12 games. Across six NFL seasons, he threw for over 12,000 yards with 73 passing touchdowns, 2,300 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
