Star pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney reportedly not interested in the Browns

Jadeveon Clowney, Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have been linked to former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Jadeveon Clowney a lot in recent weeks.

Clowney remains unsigned after he overvalued the market for his services when free agency opened back in March. He was looking at somewhere near $20 million annually, an amount no team was willing to pay.

According to this note from ESPN’s Adam Schefter (h/t ESPN colleague Jake Trotter), it does not appear that Clowney has any interest in signing with Cleveland.

As Schefter notes, there’s a number of potential reasons for Clowney’s lack of interest in the Browns. That obviously starts with concern over the organization, which has been a longstanding issue for free agents in recent years.

Jadeveon Clowney stats

Clowney, 27, is coming off a 2019 season with the Seattle Seahawks that saw him record just three sacks in 13 games. The three-time Pro Bowler had been among the top edge pass rushers in the NFL during his final three seasons with the Houston Texans before they shipped him off to the Pacific Northwest ahead of the 2019 campaign.

Jadeveon Clowney news

In addition to the Browns, the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles have been linked to Clowney in recent weeks. It looks more and more like his soon-to-be former Seattle Seahawks team is not interested in bringing back the star pass rusher.

The market will ultimately dictate where Clowney ends up. While he might not view the Browns as an attractive landing spot, they have upped the financial ante in a big way. That will play a role at some point soon.

The sooner we get to the likely start of training camp late this summer, the more pressure will be on Clowney to accept what’s in front of him. That’s when we’ll finally see this drawn out story come to a culmination.
