Momentum is building towards the return of the NBA season and with the league moving closer on plans for a host city, NBA teams could soon be given the go-ahead for a crucial step to bring basketball back.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA is beginning to move forward with plans to resume the season in Orlando at Disney World. Now with the site decided on, teams will reportedly be allowed to start recalling players to return and start preparing for the league’s return this summer.
“Teams expect the league to tell them to start recalling their players as soon as next week,” Wojnarowski said, via ESPN. “There will be a two-week quarantine. Some teams might go directly to Disney to start training or somewhere in between. The league has started to not only put the plans in place for a return in terms of testing, safety, health-wise, but really digging this week into what that format is going to look like.”
By June 1, many around the league expect commissioner Adam Silver to lay out his plan for a return to action. Among those steps, creating safety protocols for players to follow in Orlando, an outline for COVID-19 testing for team personnel and a format for the resumed season.
Everyone around the NBA is united on bringing basketball back and ensuring the safety of players and that any further disruptions can be avoided.
It is clear things are coming together rather quickly and it is only a matter of time before a firm plan is established. While we still don’t know how many teams will play when the season resume and what format it will be in, everything is looking great for basketball fans.
