There have been so many different reports to sift through during these most uncertain of times. That’s especially true when it comes to the sports world and when leagues might return to action amid the worldwide pandemic.
Previous suggestions were that the Alabama Crimson Tide football program would cancel its 2020 season opener against USC and replace it with an outing against Texas Christian. Both Alabama and the Trojans previously pushed back against said report.
USC Athletic Director Mike Bohn is now indicating that the Trojans’ season opener against Alabama scheduled for Sept. 5 at AT&T Stadium in Texas will likely go on as scheduled.
This is great news for the common football fan and those who support the nationally respected programs.
It comes amid some uncertainty as it relates to whether the 2020 college football season will start on time. States have their own policies regarding the ongoing pandemic. While Texas has decided to open up, other states are being more restrictive in restarting their economies.
What we do know is that this game will more than likely take place without fans in attendance. The good news is that it’s being played at an NFL stadium.
Commissioners for all of the top conferences in the college sports world indicated to Vice President Mike Pence earlier in the spring that the 2020 college football season won’t take place on campus unless said venues are open to the full student body.
Meanwhile, the NCAA on Wednesday approved voluntary workouts on said campuses starting June 1.
As I noted above, everything remains up in the air. Though, it seems Alabama and USC are hellbent on playing that Labor Day Weekend season opener.
