Odell Beckham Jr. trade to Vikings rumor described as ‘false’

On Wednesday morning, a report emerged indicating the Minnesota Vikings are working on a trade with the Cleveland Browns for Odell Beckham Jr.

Marc Malusis of WFAN Sports Radio was the source of the trade rumor, and he reported the Vikings were talking to the Browns about sending a second- and fifth-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for Beckham.

A couple hours later, digging for the truth on this Odell Beckham Jr. trade rumor, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com got a one-word answer from a source close to the Vikings: “False.”

The report didn’t seem to be rooted in reality to begin with. First of all, the Vikings don’t have enough cap space to take on Beckham’s contract — he’s due to make $14 million guaranteed in 2020, and Minnesota has just over $12 million in cap space.

Secondly, the Browns featured OBJ in their awesome new jersey reveal today (more on that here).

Finally, the Vikings just sent Stefon Diggs packing to Buffalo and likely aren’t interested in bringing another diva-type receiver into the fold after the negativity they experienced with Diggs.

So, it’s not surprising to hear that the Vikings aren’t going after Odell Beckham Jr.
