Former Patriots Pro Bowler shades Bill Belichick following Tom Brady’s departure

We’re likely going to hear a lot about New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick over the next several months and years.

With New England’s dynasty on the verge of ending following the departure of six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, Belichick’s mentality as the team’s head coach has been called into question.

That was taken to a whole new level earlier in the week when future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement, only to be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In talking about the first NFL head coach he ever played under, former Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel provided his opinion on the whole Brady-Belichick dynamic. In the process, he seemed to throw shade in the head coach’s direction.

This has been somewhat of an interesting debate since Brady shockingly left New England in free agency after two decades with the team.

One has to wonder why it’s seen as an either/or situation. The two worked well together before their relationship strained. It’s possible that Belichick would not have had the same success without Brady.

It’s also possible that Brady would not be considered the GOAT without Belichick coaching him for the past two decades.

A fourth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2003, Samuel played five seasons with the team. He earned two Super Bowl titles and led the league interceptions once with New England.

Samuel has first-hand knowledge of what makes Belichick a great coach. He also knows full well that the tight ship the future Hall of Famer runs could have led to the above-mentioned divorce with Mr. Brady.
