Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer promised earlier in the week to break some positive news around the NFL on Wednesday evening.
The well-respected media personality was not lying.
Glazer is reporting that Los Angeles Rams center Brian Allen became the first active player in the league to test positive for COVID-19.
Allen tells Glazer that he tested positive for the virus twice, and has since recovered.
“Breaking: First active NFL player to test positive for the corona virus, Rams C Brian Allen, told me he tested positive for COVID-19 three weeks ago and then again early last week,” Glazer reported. “Lost all smell and taste to where he couldn’t even smell an ammonia smelling-salt. Has no taste. Then the flu began. Says he’s now finally symptom-free and thankfully expecting the “all clear” this week!
Rams had to close their facility weeks ago to injured players (facilities are only open for medical) but are able to re-open next week.”
This is not what many were looking for when Glazer announced he’d break some big news. Obviously, we’re happy Allen has recovered from a virus that has cost north of 28,300 American lives as of Wednesday evening.
What this means for the league remains to be seen. With all other major professional sports seasons under suspension right now, the 2020 NFL Draft is slated to go on virtually next week.
As it relates to the upcoming season, that’s not yet known. Further spread of the virus throughout the United States and within the football community would lead to renewed questions about the season starting on time in September.
