Report: Teams have ‘concerns’ about LSU safety Grant Delpit

Former LSU Tigers star safety Grant Delpit has been projected to be a first-round pick for months, but there are reportedly “concerns” about his game at the NFL level.

Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network shared Sunday that he’s “hearing a lot of concerns about LSU safety Grant Delpit.”

“For Delpit, he is being criticized by many as not being tough or a good tackler – and I would agree with the latter,” Pauline wrote.

Pauline also reported that he was told Delpit would not likely test well at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine. Then, he ended up cutting his workouts short due to an ankle issue.

Delpit is a tremendous all-around safety who showed the ability to make impact plays both behind the line of scrimmage and deep in coverage. He made huge plays for the Tigers all year long during their championship run, and it’s hard not to wonder if some of the “concerns” being voiced are coming from teams that secretly hope he drops to them.

It’s lying season around the NFL, after all.

That being said, making a lot of tackles and being a good tackler are two completely different things. And Delpit certainly could use an upgrade to that portion of his game.
