Report: ‘No truth’ to 49ers-Odell Beckham Jr. rumors

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around the idea that the San Francisco 49ers could trade for Odell Beckham Jr., but that’s not expected to happen.

Answering a fan’s question in his mailbag for The Athletic, NFL insider Jay Glazer shut down that talk emphatically: “Nope. No truth to that. Sorry, gang. I know the 49ers loved him but they are trying to rebuild draft capital, not give up draft capital.”

Personally, this was exactly my own thought process when I started reading about the 49ers-Beckham trade rumors. Especially given the fact that the San Francisco front office traded away arguably its best defensive player in DeForest Bucker for a first-round pick. This team has intentionally set things up to build through the draft going forward, which is the best way to sustain a top roster long term.

Would OBJ be a big get for the 49ers? Certainly. But so would one of the top young receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft, and after trading Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts, the 49ers are in perfect position to land one of them.

This is the way.
