The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly gotten back in touch with Dak Prescott, through his agent Todd France, about a long-term contract.
Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated shared that the new talks will center around a contract that is between four and five years in length, noting new offers will “likely” be proposed.
Dallas made sure Prescott didn’t hit the market by using the exclusive franchise tag on him before free agency. So at this point the franchise is just trying to ensure its quarterback enters the coming season happy about his financial future.
Most recently, it’s been reported that the Cowboys made Prescott an offer that exceeded $105 million guaranteed. Obviously, that wasn’t good enough.
Should the two sides continue to stay apart on a long-term contract — as has been the case for over a year now — then things get interesting. Recently, former Cowboys quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman predicted that using the franchise tag on Prescott could be a bad deal for the organization.
However, if they can hammer out a long-term deal before training camp begins, it would relieve plenty of tension and provide stability in the years to come.
