Report: Bears talking to QB Teddy Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater Bears

The NFL free-agent tampering period started with a bang on Monday. That included a blockbuster trade between the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.

Now, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the NFL could further be turned upside down. The insider reports that the Chicago Bears are talking contract with free-agent quarterback and former first-round pick Teddy Bridgewater.

If this deal is finalized, Chicago would likely find itself in a situation where it replaces former top-five pick Mitchell Trubisky under center. The Bears’ brass has in the recent past pushed back against that idea.

As it relates to Bridgewater, he is expected to earn $30-plus million annually in free agency. That’s obviously starter money.

A product of Louisville, the 27-year-old Bridgewater saw his career almost derailed when he suffered a serious leg injury back in 2016. That came after Pro Bowl performance with the Minnesota Vikings the year before.

Bridgewater responded by starting five games in Drew Brees stead for the Saints last season, winning each outing while throwing nine touchdowns compared to two interceptions.

This is obviously something to keep an eye on with free agency officially set to open on Wednesday.
