Tom Brady will head into free agency ready to hear plenty of offers from across the NFL. However, the San Francisco 49ers will reportedly not be one of the teams seriously pursuing Brady this offseason.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there are no substantial indications that the 49ers even have a real interest in signing the future Hall of Fame quarterback. The 49ers believe in Jimmy Garoppolo as their franchise quarterback and they remain high on him even after the Super Bowl LIV loss.
Reports circulated on Tuesday that there was real interest from both sides to make a deal happen. The fit made obvious sense for Brady, who could sign with the team he grew up loving and would get the chance to compete for a Super Bowl immediately.
It should come as no surprise, though, that the 49ers remain committed to Garoppolo. In his first reason back from a torn ACL, he threw for nearly 4,000 yards with a 27-13 TD-INT ratio and the team game minutes shy of winning the Super Bowl.
The 49ers have plenty of other priorities they need to focus on this offseason, which will likely be another factor that takes them out of the hunt for Brady.
