The Atlanta Falcons announced Wednesday that they will release former first-round pick, cornerback Desmond Trufant, with a post-June 1 designation.
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as Trufant was expected to be released.
Trufant, when healthy, has been a very good player for the Falcons and made the Pro Bowl in 2015. Unfortunately, injuries have played a big role in his career, and he missed the final seven games of last season on injured reserve (for the second time in his career) due to a broken forearm.
The post-June 1 designation allows the Falcons to spread out the remaining dead cap hit of $10.2 million over a couple of years.
