The San Francisco 49ers rode their running game and defense to the Super Bowl. When head coach Kyle Shanahan put the ball in quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s hands, Garoppolo made his head coach regret it by throwing an awful interception with his eyes closed.
Moments after Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes ran in the go-ahead touchdown, Garoppolo made a disastrous mistake. After slipping out of a sack, he just threw up a prayer to the right side of the field and Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland easily picked it off.
Garoppolo attempted just 27 passes in San Francisco’s two playoff wins leading up to Super Bowl LIV. Many wondered if he could step up into a more prominent role and deliver under the pressure.
So far, it seems Garoppolo is the thing holding the 49ers’ offense back. We’d recommend to him not to close his eyes when he’s making throws under pressure.
If Garoppolo can’t settle in and make better decisions, San Francisco is in trouble facing a Chiefs’ offense that is starting to find its stride.
