Report: Tua Tagovailoa to meet with Redskins at NFL Combine

The NFL Scouting Combine is underway with some of the top NFL Draft prospects in attendance for a week of workouts and meetings with teams. Most surprising among the meetings, Tua Tagovailoa is reportedly scheduled to meet with the Washington Redskins.

According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, the former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback is set to meet with the Redskins this week. While the interview is believed to be exploratory, some within the organization reportedly aren’t sold on Dwayne Haskins.

Washington selected Haskins with the No. 15 overall pick in 2019 and he struggled, completing just 58.6% of his attempts and a 7-7 TD-INT ratio.

Tagovailoa arrived for the NFL Scouting Combine facing plenty of questions regarding his recovery from hip surgery. However, his surgeon raved about his ability to heal and believes he’ll make a full recovery.

While the Detroit Lions have been viewed as the biggest potential surprise to draft Tagovailoa, the Redskins’ desire to meet with him adds a new wrinkle to the mix. The team could also be holding the meeting to potentially convince a team like the Miami Dolphins to trade up to the No. 2 overall pick.

If Tagovailoa checks out medically at the combine, he offers the kind of impact talent that teams want from a potential franchise quarterback.
