A report earlier on Sunday indicated that the New England Patriots are willing to hand six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady $30 million per season ahead of free agency next month.
Should the two sides not come to terms on a deal ahead of March 18, this report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicates that the Las Vegas Raiders will go after Brady.
“One of the teams expected to be leading the way if Brady gets to free agency is the Raiders, whose coach, Jon Gruden, is a long-time admirer of the three-time MVP and six-time Super Bowl champion,” Schefter reported. “The two have a good relationship, and league sources believe that Gruden, who is known to be a highly effective recruiter, wants Brady on the Raiders.”
This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Las Vegas has been linked to Brady a ton in recent weeks. In fact, a since debunked report noted that Brady has purchased a house in the desert metropolis.
We also know that the Raiders’ brass is not sold on current starting quarterback Derek Carr as a long-term solution.
The idea behind chasing Brady would likely include Las Vegas also selecting a quarterback in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Brady is said to be open to mentoring a youngster under center.
