After visiting with multiple NFL teams to open the offseason and drawing rave reviews for his work in the broadcast booth, former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen could be nearing a decision regarding his future in football.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Olsen could decide by Friday on whether or not he will return to the NFL for the 2020 season or step away from the game and move into broadcasting. The 34-year-old has multiple television offers, along with offers from the Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks.
Carolina unofficially parted ways with Olsen in January. Olsen, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, immediately received interest from other teams following his release.
Signing in Washington would give Olsen the opportunity to rejoin head coach Ron Rivera, who he spent the majority of his NFL career with. He also has ties to Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who served as an assistant on Rivera’s staff in Carolina from 2011-’16.
If Olsen decides to step away from the game, he will retire with 718 catches, 8,444 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns in his career. Even if he returns to the NFL for one more season, though, broadcasting is clearly in his future.
