Derek Carr posted a picture of himself and former teammate Khalil Mack on Instagram Thursday, and then a report emerged that the Chicago Bears may be interested in landing the Las Vegas Raiders quarterback.
Here’s the Instagram post Carr shared, which included a simple caption of “#MegaPowers.”
A lot of fans made some immediate assumptions about what this post could potentially mean, with many wondering if Carr could re-join his former Raiders teammate as a member of the Bears in 2020.
Then, not long afterward, NFL insider Benjamin Allbright shared a report in which he wrote the “Bears are quietly looking” at quarterback options this offseason, with Carr being a potential candidate to come in and compete with Mitchell Trubisky.
The timing of this is very interesting. And it makes one wonder if Carr is sending fans a signal that he won’t be with the Raiders much longer.
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and Carr haven’t exactly gotten along great the past two seasons, and Las Vegas is reportedly looking at bringing in Tom Brady. All the signs point to Carr being moved, one way or another.
In Chicago, Trubisky has failed to live up to expectations and is very clearly holding the Bears back at this point in his career. A franchise with a strong overall roster and dominant defense, the Bears could be instant title contenders with a franchise quarterback.
Of course, whether Carr really is one of those is up for debate.
