The San Francisco 49ers know hoe crucial All-Pro tight end George Kittle is to their success. When Super Bowl LIV ends, the 49ers plan to reward Kittle with a contract extension that will “blow the lid” off the tight end market.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, San Francisco will try to finalize a huge contract extension done with their star tight end. When a deal is reached, Kittle’s contract with the 49ers is expected to hit at least $13 million per season.
Jimmy Graham is currently the highest-paid tight end in the NFL at $10 million per season with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce right behind him at $9.4 million annually. If the 49ers can agree to a new extension with Kittle, the 26-year-old will set the new standard for tight ends.
A fifth-round pick in 2017, Kittle has emerged as one of the NFL’s best players. He is coming off consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and is arguably one of San Francisco’s best blockers in the running game.
Kittle’s new contract will also be great news for Kelce, who is competing against him in Super Bowl LIV. The two-time All-Pro is under contract for just two more seasons, but could be in for one final payday with a new contract extension.
