Report: ‘Good chance’ Jaguars’ HC Doug Marrone, GM Dave Caldwell return in 2020

Doug Marrone fired

After surprisingly firing executive vice president Tom Coughlin earlier this week, the Jacksonville Jaguars could reportedly move forward in 2020 with general manager Dave Caldwell and head coach Doug Marrone.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, there is a good chance that Coughlin’s termination is the only major shakeup Jacksonville makes this offseason, thus allowing Caldwell and Marrone to stay for another season.

According to the report, Coughlin’s damaging influence inside the building, especially the locker room, led to his firing. Now, owner Shahid Khan wants to see how everyone performs with the negative presence gone.

Marrone reportedly had to deal with repeated issues and frustrations in the locker room caused by Coughlin. Notably, it was Coughlin’s issues with cornerback Jalen Ramsey that ultimately led to the blockbuster trade.

While the Jaguars (5-9) have fallen short of expectations this season, removing Coughlin’s negative energy from the organization could help clear the way for success.

If Caldwell remains the general manager, he’ll have two first-round picks to strengthen this team with defensive additions that give Marrone a more competitive team in 2020.
