MLB rumors: Zack Wheeler could sign before the weekend

MLB free agency has been much more robust for those on the market thus far this winter compared to last offseason.

That could be taken to a whole new level with front-end starting pitcher Zack Wheeler coming off the market here soon.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Wheeler could sign before the start of the Winter Meetings on Sunday. Heyman specifically mentions the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers as possible landing spots.

Already receiving offers in the $100 million neighborhood, interest in Wheeler’s services have picked up steam in recent days.

For good reason.

The 29-year-old starter pitched to an 11-8 record with a 3.96 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out nearly a batter per inning last season.

Wheeler’s foray into free agency could not have come at a better time. He put up the best performance of his career in the second half of last season, posting a 5-2 record with a 2.83 ERA in 12 starts.
