Report: Colin Kaepernick’s agent contacting QB needy teams

Colin Kaepernick

With all of the injuries we’ve seen at the quarterback position over the past two weeks, it stands to reason that free-agent signal caller Colin Kaepernick might get a call here soon.

The latest news surrounding quarterback injuries has Jets stopgap starter Trevor Siemian out for the season and former NFL MVP Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers likely out over the short term.

This comes after Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season and with Drew Brees facing a multi-week absence. Let’s not even get into the fact that Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is dealing with mono.

If there’s any time for Kaepernick to make his way back into the league for the first time since 2016, it’s right now.

According to this report from Chris Williamson of SNY, Kaepernick’s agent has contacted quarterback-needy teams about a possible return to the NFL.

Whether anything comes to fruition on this end remains to be seen. What we do know is that Kaepernick has a better on-field track record than numerous quarterbacks set to start Week 3.

  • Kyle Allen, Panthers: 31 career pass attempts
  • Luke Falk, Jets: 25 career pass attempts
  • Gardner Minshew, Jaguars: 58 career pass attempts
  • Mason Rudolph, Steelers: 19 career pass attempts

It will be interesting to see if anything comes to fruition on this front. Kaepernick has noted multiple times that he’s ready to return. We still wouldn’t bank on it happening.
