Houston Astros All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa came up lame in a game against the Detroit Tigers Monday night. Correa had to be pulled from the outing and was ultimately placed on the injured list with a back ailment.
It goes without saying that concern was pretty high for the first-place Astros. After all, Correa had missed two months to injury earlier this season.
Houston has now gotten some good news on that front. Correa noted on Thursday that an MRI came back clean and did not show any structural damage.
Boasting a seven-game lead in the American League West, Houston can afford to play it safe with Correa. In fact, manager A.J. Hinch noted that he won’t be back until September.
The 24-year-old shortstop is hitting .278 with 19 homers, 56 RBI and a .914 OPS on the season. He should be back for the stretch run.
