Report: Giants and Astros talking Madison Bumgarner trade

In the weeks leading up to Wednesday’s MLB trade deadline, it appeared that the San Franciso Giants went from sellers to buyers.

The team is currently in the midst of a 25-game stretch that has seen it go 20-5. San Francisco is currently just 2.5 games out of a playoff spot, leading to speculation that Madison Bumgarner and others might not be available.

But according to this report from Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Giants are currently engaged in trade talks with the Houston Astros surrounding Bumgarner.

It’s not a secret that Houston is looking for an upgrade in the rotation behind Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole. Bumgarner would certainly provide that.

The three-time World Series champ has put up a 2.75 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in the past five starts after struggling earlier in the season.

If Houston were to make a move of this ilk, it’s highly likely that top prospect Kyle Tucker would have to head to San Francisco.
