Report: Madison Bumgarner unlikely to be traded, Giants looking to buy

The San Francisco Giants had long been rumored as a team willing to sell off some of its assets ahead of the trade deadline next week.

But a recent hot run has San Francisco right in the thick of the playoff race. This has led to questions regarding Madison Bumgarner’s status on the trade block.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, it’s now highly unlikely that the three-time World Series champ will be moved.

“According to a source with knowledge of the team’s plans, the Giants are poised to become buyers if they’re still in the thick of the National League Wild Card racecome Monday, and it’s all but certain ace lefty Madison Bumgarner will not be traded, regardless of how the weekend goes,” the report read.

An impending free agent, Bumgarner had been one of the most talked about potential trade pieces.

However, San Francisco’s recent run has coincided with the ace pitching at the highest level we’ve seen over the past two seasons.

Adding another layer to this latest development, the Giants scouted Detroit Tigers ace Matthew Boyd in his most-recent start on Tuesday.

Boyd is another pitcher that has been bandied about in trade talks with the Milwaukee Brewers being considered favorites.

Currently at 52-51, the Giants are three games out of the final National League Wild Card spot.
